I met Torvald Hessel today and came to find out that Austin is soon to have its own planetarium. Torvald is the founder & Executive Director of the soon-to-be Planetarium. He told me that we have long been one of the largest cities in the U.S. to be without our own planetarium. It’ll serve as an educational center for both children & adults and will be centrally-located, next to the Bob Bullock and Blanton museums. According to Torvald, it’ll combine Art & Science and will be an additional place to do direct observation of the stars besides the UT telescopes atop Painter & RLM Halls.
Check out the Austin Planetarium’s blogspot to keep up with its development as well as find out how to contribute.
See you under the stars!
I’m so glad you’ve started this blog! I’m down the road in San Antonio, and looking forward to you shining the spotlight on Nature and Science and Art in Central Texas.
My high school had a planetarium, and I love them. I’ll watch your blog for updates.
Thanks for the comment! We are really blessed to have so many great resources in this area & I hope to help people find them more easily as part of the purpose of this blog.
I’ll post updates as I learn of them with the development on the planetarium, and I also encourage you to follow along the Austin Planetarium blog as well.
